Breivik has met new court-appointed psychiatrists several times, forced observation unlikely says Lippestad
NRK writes that Anders Behring Breivik has had three meetings since last Thursday with the new court-appointed psychiatrists. The psychiatrists are meeting Breivik individually in his cell without a glass divider. Following Breivik’s request, the conversations are recorded and Breivik’s lawyers are given a copy.
“The conversations have started. They started last week, and they are carried out in the same way as with the first court-appointed specialists. The new [aspect] is that everything is being recorded on tape that we lawyers get a copy of. This we shall have so that we can check what he has said, so that one has it for the future,” said Breivik’s lawyer, Geir Lippestad.
Lippestad also said to NRK that the decision by the Oslo District Court (Tingrett) permitting the psychiatrists to request forced observation is still valid, but that he considers it unlikely that the psychiatrists will request it now that Breivik is cooperating.
Another of his lawyers, Vibeke Hein Bæra, said that Breivik hopes that the psychiatrists declare him accountable. She says she does not believe it is the punishment that determines Breivik’s stance on the matter. “I don’t think it is so important to him what kind of punishment he is given. The most important for him is to be able to explain why he did what he did,” Hein Bæra says to NRK.
